Intellisonde In-Line Water Quality Monitoring in Distribution Pipelines

MonitoringThere has long been a demand to devise a reliable method for "in-line monitoring" of important water quality parameters in a pressurised pipeline and communicate accurate data to the operational personnel. The Intellisonde multi-parameter monitoring system is a unique measuring device, designed for direct insertion into potable water pipeline distribution networks, providing significant benefits:

  • Continuous water quality monitoring within the distribution system
  • Integration into a water utility data collection system such as SCADA
  • Provide real time and historical data – both alphanumeric and graphical
  • Assist with compliance & regulatory requirements
  • Analysis of the distribution network
  • Minimise risk of contamination posed by bursts and repairs
The Intellisonde weighs 3.5kg and is installed into a distribution pipeline via a 50mm threaded ball valve which allows for easy maintenance without interfering with the process. An electrical supply is then connected which can be by mains power, or battery for remote applications.

The electronic module includes an integral data logger within a sealed waterproof enclosure which can be accessed via a laptop and software package. However, the device also has Modbus & Ethernet communication interfaces allowing the information to be accessed direct to the utilities data collection system. Calibration is very straight forward and user friendly. There is also a portable version available, allowing testing of specific locations for quality and potential problem areas.
